Subject: Submarine (R/C) Squadron Five – Colorado Crew Regatta 2009 Patrol - Report of.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Colorado Crew of SubRon5 recently held their annual June regatta in Westminster, Co. The combined sub/skimmer event was another great time with a good showing of bubbleheads and their boats.

According to attendee Tom Kisler, the weather was cloudy and a bit gusty which created a decent chop on the water. Tom ran his Liberty ship which was set upon by a wolfpack consisting of Ted Shulte’s Type VII and Tim Senecal's Type II on its maiden voyage.  The Type VII suffered a bent periscope courtesy a blissfully unaware skimmer puke pilot and the Type II barely made it out of port before needed repairs brought her back.  Tom said, “Needless to say the convoy got through.”

Later, Tim Senecal's Blueback was carrying a camera while underway. Unfortunately, it was lost for a bit. When it went down the camera recorded the crash and eventual rescue. Tim posted the video to the message boards. You can clearly see Tim’s arm reach down and retrieve the boat from the bottom. The same camera was later mounted on Ted's boat to record his approaches on Tom’s Liberty ship.

Tom Spettel was not on speaking terms with his Alfa and it was a static display. Tim’s Alvin was completed and looking good. There was also an r/c shark in attendance.

The crew also met a sub vet named Rich Richards who is hand machining his old boat, the USS Sam Rayburn, a Lafayette class boomer. They encouraged him to join the SubCommittee.

Respectfully,
P.H. Crozier
