Following her arrival at Pearl Harbor, Captain O'Kane reported the successful sinking of five merchant ships: Gyoten Maru; freighter; 6854 tons - February 17, 1944 Fukuyama Maru; passenger-cargo; 3581 tons - February 22, 1944 Yamashimo Maru; freighter; 6776 tons - February 23, 1944 Echizen Maru; freighter; 2424 - February 24, 1944 Choko Maru; freighter; 1794 - February 25, 1944    Tang received credit for these sinkings from ComSubPac and O'Kane was awarded the Navy Cross.
