Upon her return to Midway Island, Captain O'Kane claimed, and was credited for, five sinkings for Tang's fourth patrol.
  • Biyo Maru; freighter; 5425 tons - August 11, 1944
  • unidentified patrol boat; 1500 tons - August 23, 1944
  • unidentified transport; 10000 tons - August 23, 1944
  • unidentified tanker; 5000 tons - August 25, 1944
  • Kushiro Maru; 600 tons - August 25, 1944
O'Kane was awarded a third Navy Cross. Unfortunately, post war analysis by JANAC would only confirm two:
  • Roko Maru; freighter; 3328 tons - August 11, 1944
  • Tsukushi Maru; transport; 8135 tons - August 23, 1944
Recent research suggests that Tang's actual sinkings for the patrol totaled four:
  • Roko Maru; freighter; 3328 tons - August 11, 1944
  • Nansatsu Maru #2; 116 tons - August 23, 1944
  • Tsukushi Maru; transport; 8135 tons - August 23, 1944
  • Nanko Maru #8; tanker; 834 tons - August 25, 1944
